[python] Re: Python based trike

Terry

Have you seen Esko Meriluoto's Hipparion? It is a delta trike, nicely
built in aluminium, with Python-style front end and steering. Like the
Python, the design seems to have originated in a re-think of the Flevo
and Airbike geometry.

A test prototype was built as far back as 1996, and a "first actual
prototype" built in 1998 was ridden 43,000km before it was stolen last
year. A drawing of a later prototype shows a negative trail of 200mm.
By eye, the rake of the pivot is a little less than 60 degrees, which is
low, by Python standards.

The builder reports that the trike was very easy to ride, and cornered
and braked well, at moderate speeds. But he fitted a steering damper,
and says all trikes should have one "to avoid sharp turns" and to make
it easy to drive very accurately, suggesting that he experienced the
same sort of high-speed instability as some of the Python list.
