Hi Listies,
I asked Yves from France about his python project.
That is what he answered:
Bonjour Jürgen,
I would love to help you but I fear that the following will be a bit
of a let-down. I was very impressed by your Python, fascinated
by the originality and the daring of the design. I therefore launched
myself on the projet with much enthusiasme. However, once built,
it turned out to be a difficult animal to tame. I did manage to cycle
the length of a football field without touching the ground but that
was at relatively slow speed. Since I find cycling recumbents
especially exciting at speed (in corners and steep down hills) my
python frightened me. If I were an adolescent daredevil, I would
perhaps perevered but at my age (57) taking such risks is really
not reasonable. But perhaps the instability of my machine was
due to insufficently precise construction. I therefore considered
this project as an excellent way of learning to arc weld (with a
mig machine I recently acquired) which it turned out to be. To
make room in the basement, I therefore slayed the beast and
threw the morsels away! However, I attach a few pictures of
the living reptile.
Thanks for your inspiration and best regards,
Yves
I have the feeling that the combination of "building one´s
first recumbent" and "learning to ride a center-steered bike"
is too much effort for most of the people.
I had the advantage of 6 years of airbike experience when
I started with the python, so the steering principle already
was familiar to me ;-)
Here is the list of all known projects. I would appreciate
if someone would share his experiences in this mailing list.
- Laurent Dechenne from Belgium
- Torben Scheel from Denmark
- Jürgen Maier from Germany
- Alain Branca from Corsica
- Euardo LP jr from Brazil
- Michael Rienstra from California
- Mike Channon from Canada
- Burket Kniveton from California
- Stefan Knorr from Germany
- Scott Rose from Washington
- Yves Destrubé from France
- Peter Oliva from Germany
