Ok, I can try holding the seat in these cases.

I doubt I will loose contact either --- I use time attac pedals.
Although... once, on my flevo, one of the pedals screwed itself off from
the crank while riding at great speed. Anything can happen...

Well be happy! I would prefer riding better without than with! Less
weight, less drag, cleaner design, rain does not drippel into the brake
levers.

Yes

But thats not the reason for them. When using the handlebars I find I
have a finer control over the bike, certainly when doing difficult
manouvers at slow speed (like fx. slalom around bars at bicycle paths).
It also makes starting without suprises, even in the "wrong" gear (no
swaying). For riding at normal speed it's not obvious clear for me if I
do apply force to the handlebars.
