A great appeal of the Python is it's simplicity.
It has been difficult for me to find out how much energy is lost to
friction each time the chain changes direction ..... but it is
significant.
I haven't even started to build .... but if i do I'd favor hub gearing
..... I ride in very flat country ..... a 3 speed ..... the middle
gear (direct drive and no energy loss) would be about 90 inches which
is my most used gear in this locality. There are also reliable hub
gears with many more speeds now available.
