I think the ultimate, and optimum trike design would be a tilting, delta
trike. Whether it's a python front end or a twist chain FWD, I think
tilting is the answer - not tilting to steer, just tilting rear wheels?
Why? Well, FWD makes for a tight, clean and much simpler and lighter drive
chain. That's obvious. Front wheel steering is much simpler and lighter,
and has less drag, than 2 wheel steering (ie tadpole). Lastly, tilting the
whole trike measn you can move the CoG towards the inside of the turn if you
do it right, and that minimizes or removes the biggest problem with deltas,
and that is tipping on high speed turns. Greenspeed, Fast FWD and Jettrike
are all on their way to that end, I think. With a tilting delta, you don't
have the scary control issues - they corner just like a two wheeler.
Just don't confuse a "tilting trike" with "tilt to steer" - not the same
animal at all and a totally different set of considerations.
