I had about 150km on the python before I felt steady enough to ride around
on the roads a little. Rest assured though, I wasn't anywhere close to
"relaxed" as I tried the roads for about another 150km. Every once in a
while there would still be a crazy zig-zag, or I'd completely forget how to
turn a corner. As I approached the 400km mark, I felt pretty relaxed and
could enjoy myself. I wasn't worried about cars coming up behind or towards
me anymore, and I could ride narrow bike paths with two way traffic without
worrying about running into someone as long as I kept it lower than 35kph.
I put 800 or 900km on the python using rollers over the winter, and I feel
very relaxed now that I'm back on the road again.
Marcel and I went out and had a drag race a couple days ago. We got up to
53kph on the flat but we ended up running out of road and had an
intersection and stop sign that we really had to hammer the brakes for. The
scariest part was trying to stop hard. We're definitely getting better at
accelerating hard on the pythons and using clipless pedals is a HUGE help in
that respect.
