Hallo Jens,
My name is Jens. I am physic student form Munich ...
Great! We desperately need more physicist here ;-)
Dadurch dass der Schwerpunkt unterhalb der Vorderradachse liegt,
reagiert das Hinterteil wie ein hängendes Pendel und zieht das
Vorderrad automatisch in die Geradeausstellung."
This is rather old (2003). Like Ray already stated, the CoG does
not need to be below the wheel axles to make the effect work.
More interesting seems to be the question where exactly the
CoG should be to maximize the "self centering effect". Is it
exactly on the steering axis or is it perpendicular above or
below the steering pivot?
Should be a nice little exercise in mechanics for a physics student...
BTW: We have much more unresolved questions concerning
engeneering mechanics.
Grüße nach München,
Jürgen.
