so far I haved used 12mm rod ends for all my builds including my three
seater faired trike. Also with that and a total weight of 180kg no issues
even with high speed and rough terrains.

The 10 mm rod ends are really tiny, but I guess if it is high quality
steel (like Askubal) they will do just fine.
Great to hear that your birdcage (see picture in attachment) is still in
service! Locknut (Kontermutter ;-) is mandatory - yes.
