Another method is set an Oxy-Acetylene torch on full acetylene
and blacken the area with soot.  Then turn on the oxygen in a
50/50 mix and heat while moving until the soot burns off.

Annealing aluminum alloy destroys the heat treatment.
You may want to look into having the crank heat treated again.
The method of treatment is different for each particular alloy.
