your bike looks really professional!
Did you use angular contact ball bearings for the pivot?

The aluminium plates should prevent the feet from falling
accidentally and you can use normal shoes.

Of course cleats have their own advantages...

Oncoming cars immedeatly slow down and move to the right, when
they see me - presumably thinking sth dangerous is approaching ;-)
