OK, Call me a total GEEK or something. But I think this is FANTASTIC! OK,
look I am not a kid, I am 53. I GREW UP in the 1960s and 70's I thought
that a digital WATCH was a pretty cool thing! to me putting in coordinates
of someone's home in a country halfway around the world and then having the
computer "fly" me to that place and show me their VERY ROOFTOP is
ASTOUNDING! I mean REALLY! soemthing else wierd to me is that someone from
Brazil told me about the python list. So a "friend" in Brazil, tells ME in
IOWA USA about a web site run by a guy in GERMANY who has an interest in
bicycles like I do! And members of that group are spread out all over the
WORLD! and I can talk with them in REAL TIME I am GEEKING OUT here!
OK, I am over reacting, but I was ALWAYS interested in "pen pals" when I was
in school. people would write letters to people around the world. It would
take WEEKS to get a response. But today I can be talking to you guys, or to
a friend Annie in Australia, or Bruno in Sweden, Juergen in germany or
Thorsten (also Germany? I am not sure really!) and others too! Sorry to be
so clueless, but I am still AMAZED at how wonderful this really is! I can't
BELIEVE that we can do this! MAYBE maybe maybe the nternet can make people
closer and can be a power to bring about world peace. GOD would that be
great!
my only sorrow here is that I don't have enough money that would allow me to
travel around and get to go for a ride with ALL of my friends and
acquaintences. I speak NO other languages, I am trying to learn German from
a CD right now, I am TERRIBLE at it, but do you realize that the nearest
country that doesn't speak english to me is about 1200 miles away? that is
about 2000KM! I very occasionally run into a spanish speaker, not enough
to practice!
Anyway, you guys will have to forgive me my little outburst. I VALUE your
friendship highly! I TREASURE the ability to have contact with people from
other countries!
So am I being an ugly American? probably...but I mean well!
thanks guys!
