[pure-silver] Re: when lights?

Dear Bob,

When I'm doing final prints I don't turn the light on at all until I'm finished with the whole job. It's only when I'm tuning in the final exposure that I feel a need to turn on the white light occasionally, just to see what it will look like.

I have never been able to see any difference between the last test and the first "final print" - and that is indeed the purpose of proofing. Since I invariably inspect the last proof with white light after 30 seconds in the fixer, I have proved that under my working conditions turning on the light after 30 seconds is perfectly safe. This would be exactly the same for final prints, and my last "proof" is usually included with the "final prints".

DEAR OLE,
I am not referring to proofing. I am referring to prints that will
be the final prints. Any suggestions?

As long as I'm still "proofing", I usually wait about 30 seconds even if
I've determined by trial that ten seconds is actually enough - with the
light level I have in my darkroom.
