[pure-silver] Re: under-developed?

I was in a camera shop and saw a deal on chemicals, hc110 being the only developer they had. I live an hour from the city and any such store, so order everything at a distance. I thought it was a bargain. Turned out not to be, really.
Janet,
This is the way I use HC110. Bear in mind it is only used for 4x5 film.
I was told by a co worked which had an MD in organic chemistry that the only sure way to measure a thick syrup is to weight it. So I've devised a table with the dilutions I use often (B and H) and the quantities I often need (for the Combiplan, the Jobo 2521 used out of the processor and the tray) and calculated the weight of syrup for the said tank. I tare my measuring vessel on the scale and add the required amount of chemical into it, to up to the required volume, stir and run my film in it. The exact density of the concentrate is quite immaterial, as you will adjust your processing times to fit your printing habits. The only important thing is that you've, as always, have to be consistent. When the original bottle has too much air above the syrup, I pour the remaining into a smaller brown glass bottle.
My concentrate is more than 3 years old and as good as the first day....
The density I've used in calculation is 1.215 (i.e. 1215 gr for a liter)
I use a feeding 60ml syringe to get the concentrate from the bottle. It s easy to let the small drop out of the syringe into the vessel when approaching the exact mass, and get back some concentrate if you've gone too far.
Hope this helps.
BTW: I am quite in tune with Ryuji Suzuki when he state that HC110 is not good for 120 or 135 film... Oh, last but not least, stir well and long enough in order for ALL the concentrate to go into solution...Been there, done that....
