If you buy a couple of Forstner-style wood boring bits, imported Chinese versions of which are available very cheaply today, you almost trivially can get absolutely perfect, flat bottomed round holes for lensboard use.

I second the use of Forstner bits for making lens boards. They are also handy for cutting the recesses for retaining rings before cutting the opening for the lens/shutter. For things like a Copal #0 - you can get 40mm or 1 9/16 in bits from some of the woodworking supply houses ( Woodworkers Supply or Rockler). 1/8 in tempered, smooth both sides Masonite also works for lens boards. Cheap, easy to work with, does not splinter, and after a couple of coats of Ultra Flat Black, who knows it is masonite. ;-)
