hydroquinone would help protect the ascorbate.

I think I have to add that Ilfosol S contains both hydroquinone and
ascorbate according to MSDS, last time I checked.

Ilfosol S is a decent, moderately high accutance developer suitable for
APX25, Pan F Plus, TMX, Acros, etc. but I wouldn't use it for most 400
speed films. The biggest shortcoming of this developer is, of course,
very short shelf life once opened. I'd prefer DS-12 to Ilfosol S for
this reason and for absence of hydroquinone.
