[pure-silver] paper speed variation

I have a new box of 5x7 ilford multigrade warmtone glossy paper. I also have an older box of the same paper in 8x10 size. The 5x7 paper is at least a stop faster than the 8x10 paper. Why is this? I can't find an expiration date on the 5x7 box so I don't know when it was made compared to the other box. Does this happen very often?
