   I would get it checked out anyway. If the fast speed is 
capping the other speeds may be off too.
   The lens just unscrews. If its a  folding type lens 
unfold it. Turn the focusing adjustment to the closeset 
setting and turn the whole lens counter-clockwise, it will 
just unscrew.

   So, you consider being kicked by a mule minor, eh. You 
must lead an adventurous life. I have managed not to be 
kicked by anything larger than dogs but have had horses step 
on my toes. Horses know just what they are doing when they 
do this. Mostly they are just passive-agressive.
