Shannon....
Sorry... But I have two pieces on anti-newton glass in my Durst
enlarger.
In both cases the 'rough' (read textured surface) The have "been there"
since its acquision. The only time they are removed is when negatives
smaller than 4x5 are being enlarged, although occasionally I will
place a
120 neg in there and use the masking blades to reduce light spill
In the 30+ years this enlarger has been in use I have never observed a
blurry image due to the anti-newton glass.

No, because then the projected image would be blurry. The anti-
newton glass goes on top, as established in our earlier
conversation about this. It's just that the rough side should be
in contact with the negative, not the smooth side.

Subject: [pure-silver] newton ring problem figured out
A few months ago I posted a question about what was causing a weird
white ring on my prints. It was diagnosed as a symptom of Newton
Rings,
and then the question was: why did the Newton rings form? I had to
leave Houston where my darkroom is for a few months, but last
weekend I
was back in Houston and I investigated the problem further. I found
that the glass carrier does have anti-newton glass on top, but the
glass is beveled so that the rough side is up!
The discussion on this list made me understand that the rough side
should be in contact with the film base side of the negative.
But, in
my carrier, the way it is beveled forces you to put the top glass
in so
that the smooth side touches the film base.
I guess the only solution is to have the glass re-beveled so that
the
rough side is in contact with the film base side of the negative,
correct?
