Uneven borders pushes a funny button for me; as a result I have a lot of custom frames with sizes like 19x19 or 15x18 to pick a recent example. In the case of square prints, I happen to be partial to 10x10s in 16x16; 14x14 looks okay, but the mat is a little too small. An 8x8 in 14x14 might be okay, and it's not impossible to find premade frames in 14x14 if you look in the right store.
