[pure-silver] Re: looking for omega carrier

Richard I don't have a clue about the history either, but I know they made flat 4x5 carriers because I have it. IF in a bind and couldn't locate one that easily it could easily be cut out of a flat aluminum sheet or steel sheet for that matter. It didn't look that hard. Mine uses a couple of rivets I think on the top and bottom of the negative to keep it from slipping around.

With some basic metal working tools if you have a carrier for a different negative size for the outside pattern, it would also give you the center needed for the 4x5 center. IF you can't do it, also any machine shop should be able to do it in no time. One with a CNC machine it would be a matter of minutes.

Granted it may be more cost effective to wait till you could find one, but it would be an option if in a bind.

Thanks for the hints but I am not the one looking:-) Actually I think you could make a temporary negative holder from stiff cardboard. I DO have some of the flat type holders made by Omega and some with the frame on the bottom. All of them have pins at the corners of the negative cut out to keep them aligned and also have two slots at the top (back?) which mate with pins on the lamphouse to locate the entire holder. The cut out in the lamphouse fits the frame on the later versions so they also fit. Omega enlargers are good ones although some people prefer Durst, etc. One great virtue of the Omega, especially the very common D-2 and D-2V is the plentiful supply of parts and accessories, not true of some Durst models.
