I have a print of myself as a child, emulsion stuck to the glass in spots. I'll
never be able to separate the print from the glass without damaging it. So it
will stay that way until it really falls apart.
As for the cost issue - and I don't mean to disregard your budget concerns - I
only mention this in case you think it is more expensive than it really is. If
you're already a DIY kind of person - Matting sheets are about $12 for a
32"x40" sheet, on the high side. A steel rule and blade and some practice will
give you a clean cut, without the angled in edge, but if you use 2 ply instead
of 4 ply, it will look just fine. A cut matt hinged to anther piece of the same
board with the print between is a very good way to protect a print.
There's a lot on-line about matting and framing.
The other thing I wonder about is whether antiglare glass used upside down
(antiglare side to the emulsion) wouldn't prevent the smooth surfaces from
fusing with moisture.
