Can eBay stop it? Given
that eBay earns money on the listing and a (not insignificant) percentage

the final price its hardly in their interest to stop this kind of fraud as
long as the market seems to continue to play along. I would also like to
point out that while a buyer must pay for a win (or get an eBay strike
which
can lead to a terminated account) a seller is NOT required by eBay to sell
(just to pay their fees should the auction complete). eBay's logic? The
seller is the one that pays the fees so the game needs to be tilted in
their
favor (and, of course, the house) as long as there are (players) buyers to
fill the (gambling) tables...
I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. Bottom line is people will bid
what people will bid. That there is self bidding in order to drive up the
price, only means that the price is possibly artificially inflated. So be
it. Just don't bid higher then what you can afford.
People get ripped off all the time.. on Ebay and in stores. There's
nothing new here.
My advice ? Check KEH, check past finished auctions to get a feel of what
stuff goes for. Decide what you are willing to pay, set up an auction sniper
to your max bid of what you can afford and are willing to pay and leave it.
Don't even bother to check what the bid is currently at. That's where you
get caught up in the action.
Set and forget.
If you lose, even by a dollar, too bad. You didn't bust your budget.
'Winning' isn't always winning.
