The system I described was in fact the Japanese Yahoo
auction system.

The way that system helps buyers is that you have a
better chance to get what you want, even if you wind
up paying more than you orginally wanted to.

I agree with what you say, and I think it would be
nice if a system could be developed to help buyers get
what they want at the lowest price. Such a system
would flourish due to the great deals and that would
atract sellers who really want to move the items
quickly, rather than holding out for more money... I
think the way this might be acheived could be by short
to ultra short listing periods. I think the listings
on ebay are a bit too long.
