You are assuming that there is a functioning market for photographic gear.
There is none. Its all effectively "junk".

Is the price of finished auctions the going price or just the price that
auctions finished at (without anyone really buying anything)? I can document
many instances where the price levels of items have been inflated by sellers
working to maintain the values of their stocks. Many dealers, in fact, bid
on items to drive their prices up without intent to purchase but only to
protect their own items. This is not self-bidding. They might not even know
the sellers. It does not matter. The attempt is to set the stage and push price
level expectations to higher levels.

Since people don't know the value of an item--- or the prices are so much
below their utility value anyway--- and there is no real information its just
a wild collection of random and manipulated points.
