With your 150mm, if you don't see any light at any speed then, yes, it has a serious problem ...
With the 80mm, by varying the shutter speed between 1/125 and 1/4, you should be able to see the corresponding varying light, you can't measure by eye the absolute speed, but you should be able to detect a progression error, if any . For the fastest speeds, the light may just look as a very short flash.
