Janet, I am curious if you wipe the film with a q tip or cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol do the particles wipe off. You said that the film cleans up a bit if you re wash the affected strips in water. If that is the case then I don't see how the water could be the cause and the solution. Unless it is an intermittent problem. Do you find that the spots are on only the base or only the emulsion side? maybe you just need to clean all your tanks and containers and remix chemicals and make fresh photo flo, or Edwals LFN as I prefer, and then with the lights on run a piece of film through all stages and watch for the grit.
