[pure-silver] Re: Workbench advice

Hi,

So now that you have seen what I call a darkroom, I would like some advice on how to proceed with the new and improved darkroom. Call it darkroom v2.0.

Where do you place your enlargers and trays ? Did you build a workbench ?
 Did you buy one ?

My house is what is called a "Cape Cod" even though I am in New Jersey.
My darkroom is in a room in the upstairs, which means that the ceiling is
full height in the middle, but slopes off at the sides so as to be about
four feet high there. It is the shape of the letter L. The bottom of the L
is fourteen feet wide, and my sink is along the full width of that side. The
main sink is eight feet wide, two feet deep, and about 6" high. I made it
from 3/4" A/C plywood that I glued together with 2-part resorcinol glue and
screwed about every 6 inches. The whole thing was painted first with a layer
of marine varnish diluted about 3 parts thinner with one part varnish so it
would soak in and seal the wood. I then put a layer of full strength
varnish, but then I discovered 2-part epoxy paint (Klenk's) so I painted it
with two coats of that, too -- white. To the right of the main sink is
another one about two feet by two feet by six inches deep. I can put
standpipes in their drains to regulate how full they get. The washing sink
overflows into the main sink. That's ten feet. At each end is a 2 x 2 foot
drainboard.

I have a "laundry" type valve in the main sink, and a Lawler pressure and
temperature regulated valve for the washing sink. A Time-O-Lite timer for
the enlarger and a GraLab timer for the sink. I mainly use Calumet stainless
steel trays about 12x16" for processing, and a set of 16x20" plastic trays
for large prints (that I very seldom use).

Opposite the sink is a huge box (that keeps me from falling into the
stairwell) that is structurally part of the house. It is almost high enough
to put the enlarger (45-MCRX) on, so I took 3 2x4s and a piece of plywood
and made a support for the enlarger on top.

Along the side of the L I have a four feet by 12 feet table mainly bolted to
the wall.

The ceiling is white, the walls are about 18% gray, but the ceiling and
walls around the enlarger are flat black.
