Dick Sullivan got material from the Mortensen school. In
his book Mortensen describes something along the lines of
crayon sauce but he may actually have done something
different. The idea is that the surface of the print is
roughed up using pumice or something similar. Then it is
smeared over with the powdered graphite or whatever and this
is then selectively cleared away using verious tools. A
spray of fixitif of some sort is needed after finishing. The
method produces a grained effect and exagerated contrasts.
Like oil coloring it requires considerable skill to get
satisfactory results.
