Either would likely work. Remember he was contact printing. It was not part of an image that was being enlarged. With a contact print, the negative is what it is. What he effectively did by writing on the glass would be to use the writing as a means to block the light to create the text. That's exactly what you are doing by using the film. I would think of this as sort of like dodging your name into a print which I couldn't do without a trick like this. As an afterthought how bout this. If I were you Id try say putting the film on and exposing say 90% of the exposure time, then take the film off and give it the last bit of exposure. Instead of the text being white, you would have text written into portions of the image, but still have image there. Granted it would take some guess work and trial and error to figure it out, only to possibly find out that you didn't like the effect, but you might. Then one I have is a fine, felt tip, permanent black marker and perfect for the application. Sharpie the brand has a full assortment of sizes and colors. Certainly at some thickness I'd think the glass would render the lettering out of focus. -----Original Message----- From: pure-silver-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pure-silver-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bogdan Karasek Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2007 10:44 AM To: pure-silver@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pure-silver] Re: White lettering, black background Hi Mark, Won't the thickness of the glass cause the writing to be less than sharp, a bit diffuse? Question: we don't use the term *sharpie* in Quebec. I know it is some sort of felt pen but could you define/describe it for me. Is it is very pointy felt pen or what?
