[pure-silver] Re: Where is everyone?

Nick

I own a Speedotron setup for almost ten years now. I went for the 1600 Ws
power pack with four light heads. This equipment hasn¹t failed me once.
Simple and robust stuff. Also, the support is excellent. I always have
gotten an answer from Speedotron within 24 hours. The power is enough for a
small studio, and I have used it with large soft boxes (3x6 ft) without
problem. The only thing missing is actually the capability to turn it down
further. The lowest setting is 1/4 power. This is too much power for
wide-open aperture shots, used in portraiture. I use filters or white cloth
over the lights to dim them down in that case.

Don¹t use the lights on a digital camera! The trigger voltage is too high
(60V). I use an electronic trigger on the power pack and a small trigger
flash on the camera. This is much safer for the camera, and I use the same
setup for the Hasselblad now. 60V will wear out any camera trigger
eventually.
