Does this mean the floor is open ? -)

I've got a how much is enough question. How many watt seconds is
enough?
Monolight. Shot into a mid size softbox. Figure MF B&W film at around 50 EI.
F/8 or so. I'd also like it to have enough power to handle 8x10 using faster
film. Say 250EI. But smaller F/stops.

I've been basically talked out of the new Sunpak strobes. They sounded
good
enough but I've heard less then thrilling things about ToCads support for
past models. I've considered the new Patterson lights but have seen some
troubling reports. At least troubling to me. The 500 ws Photogenics seem
interesting but I emailed the company tech address and never got a reply
back. That leaves me looking at the Speedotron 1000ws monolight. It's more
money then I think makes sense for my light use. OTOH I can get them locally
and I've heard almost nothing but positives. A big plus they sell a step up
inverter for use with 230V power. I'm guessing that means they'll work fine
with any step up inverter. The need to order the Alien bees direct from the
factory is a serious negative for me. I'd rather have at least one local
source.

So how many watt seconds is enough? Have I missed any makes in making
my
choices?

        Nick
