Dear Bob,

Who knows, we might be getting future films that integrate with digital in remarkable ways.

Indeed you are right. The first such "middleware" or "hybrid" products are coming to market.

I am just in the process of testing a new film by Rollei, called
Rollei Scanfilm CN 400 Pro. Its a 400 ASA film, especially "designed for easy scanning" according to Rollei. Its a colour negative film without the orange base (i.e. unlike the Kodak 400 CN, IIRC). This should make scanning simpler (like a slide film) but it also allows colour AND b/w prints. So you get easy access to the d<beep> :-) world with the good archival properties of film.

BTW they are also introducing Rollei SD - Slide Direct which is a direct black and white slide film like AGFA Scala. I will try this as soon as I can get my hands on it. Apparently its also easy to develop it at home (unlike Scala which needed special machine processors).

Love,
Snoopy
