Are the values you quote maximum yellow and maximum magenta on your
enlarger?
Whenever I have split printed I have always simply wound the Yellow to
max for the highlight exposure then after that is determined remove the
yellow from the light path and dial in max Magenteta for the test across
the yellow exposure that gives the slightest perceivable highlight detail.
