Fading is not so much the issue as a film developing on filters from out
gassing, damage etc. As long as you inspect them every once in a while to
ensure that they are clean and undamaged you could eliminate them from the
mix, you should be fine.

AFAIK, 
metal film dichroic filters should be very long lived.
