[pure-silver] Re: These anachronistic historical locations will soon be on tours

Anachronistic just means very little competition from those motivated by profit and gain. Pick any industry, and you will find a segment of it populated by dedicated craftspeople making modest to good livings doing things the slow difficult way. They tend to be the laughing stock of their respective fields, but on average their work & service far exceeds the quality of the industry at large. Furthermore, there is nothing anachronistic about wet darkroom photography. Equipment and supplies are still made and serviced worldwide, and while the demand has shrunk considerably, it is far from gone.

For enthusiasts and artists there is no need whatsoever to buy into any of the current trends. In fact it is an advantage to pick up the discarded pieces of the dying industry and put it to good creative use. Besides, by the time an industry has expired, its tools and techniques have been perfected. The story of what's happening to photography is paralleled in many other fields. What gets picked up and rejuvenated tends to be the best of the best. You find the best of what we might eat, drink, look at or hold, use, and you'll likely be finding what's been made "The old fashioned way" - anachronistically.

You're making yourselves part of history by setting up and maintaining Darkrooms. Perhaps there are grants available to help. Get a digital camera or a video recorder to document your site. Your competition for grants are likely to be blacksmith shops, livery/stables and harness makers.

On the other hand, a gal in California put a clever independent darkoom by converting a cargo-tainer. I don't seem to find it but it solved lots of problems very readily.
