All I can say they are of the same kid, same backyard and same direction.
But its great to hear you say this, I've never been satisfied with my b/w conversion from RGB, on this image I tried some new technics...

I think, I know what's confusing me. The two pictures look almost identical
in tonality. How is that possible?
