[pure-silver] Re: Speedotron 2401A

After Jim's response, I want to add....

I graduated as an EE in 1970. I did get educated on Leyden jars, as I am sure
did Jim.

We had a great quantity of meters back then that were enclosed in wonderfully
detailed wooden boxes. A joy to use. We did have a
Leyden jar, and several other devices to learn the basics of electricity. We
were the first class to not be taught about tubes, nor
motors ( a required class before me using motors about 3 feet in diameter), and
also the first class to be brought up with a
computer we could program ( PDP8 with toggle switches.) We were taught basics,
and HOW things worked. I made my own semiconductors
from crystals I grew, oriented, and cut. We were taught about transistors (
probably a bit early for Jim's education to have been
included). I specialized in semiconductors and microwave.

I doubt the current EE education has any of that old stuff.....
