[pure-silver] Re: Speedotron 2401A

This is pretty much what happened to me with an added little tidbit. I was thrown about thirty feet into a wall as well. I appreciate Jim's repair experience and all the things that are supposed to go right and be done correctly, however, I will always discharge the packs immediately after turning them off.

Reminds me of a story...

I once assisted a photographer named Dick Shirk. He had been an assistant of Harold Edgerton, during the development of electronic strobes.

Edgerton liked to show off the power of his strobes by placing a sheet of newspaper across the (very large) reflector they used to shoot from airplanes (!) He would discharge the strobe (from a whole bank, rows and rows, of capacitors). The power was sufficient to essentially vaporize the sheet of newspaper.

So, Dick thought, if Edgerton can do it, I can do it. So he tried it. All he got was flaming newspaper and a ruined reflector.

Come to think of it, when I assisted him, I remember getting a 'suntan' from one of his large reflectors as I held a piece of machinery still for him to photograph....
