I most certainly agree that sending it off would be
the best option if it is an option.
If I were going to attempt it myself, I'd stay away
from super glue, epoxy, contact cements, or anything
else that did indeed increase the dimensions of how
the mirror nested in its frame to any appreciable
degree. The white glue I mentioned will certainly
change the dimension some, but it is a glue very much
like Elmers or carpenters white glue but with better
bonding strength and water/moisture proof, and I am
thinking it is the best first attempt I could make.
I'd actually place it on the old glue in hopes that it
would bond to it and I'd try to make sure that only a
tiny amount was place there. I would of course also
be hoping for it squeeze out and become only microns
thick where the contact is made.
