Absolutely NaxS (polysulfide) is one of the ways to buy this chemical 

The S-2  is the active part that creates Ag2S which is quite stable
That  is the yellowish "Silver tarnish" in solid silver exposed to atmosphere.

to specify sodium sul_fide_ in the formulas. The answer is 
definitly yes. The original formulas carry a warning not to 
use sul_fite_ which is quite different and will not work as
