Ok, I'm not trying to start a fight here... or trying to compare the
merit of one or the other.
An observation: scanning several negatives that I have later printed,
or vise versa, I've found that split grading the print comes the
closest to scanning with auto-expose (default for my Epson). It's
pretty clever that the scanner software can auto adjust for contrast,
or capture enough that a curves or levels adjustment can bring out
detail. I've found this relationship interesting, and helpful as I
learn to work with my negatives.
