I guess that's the point. The effect of aging shows right away and is no
longer a potential mystery. The idea is not to get sloppy with the
processing, but to tone the non-image residual silver is better than leaving
it available to other pollutants. One might even like the look of stained
highlights. Not everyone prints to get archival prints.
Of course, getting rid of residual silver through proper fixing is the best
method. However, I found it interesting that sulphide toner also converts
non-image silver, making it more stable.
