Subject: [pure-silver] Purple-Tinted Negs

A friend has written me asking if I have any idea why her
negs have a purple tint. She says it has happened before
but cannot figure out why.

The only information I know is that she is using the
Washington, DC water supply, and she says her fixer was
freshly mixed.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Adrienne, have you any idea what kind of film she is
using? If its T-Max the problem is common. Its from a
sensitizing dye which is persistent. Even when negatives are
completely fixed the dye tends to persist. A normal
treatment in Kodak Hypo Clearing Agent will remove it.
I have heard of a similar condition with Ilford Delta films except the color is bluish. Also, I've heard of a color tint on Tri-X but the stuff I've used recently came out completely clear.
