KRST was turning brown despite the washing. There was still acid
in the paper
It isn't the acid, it is the silver salts in the unfixed paper.
Take a few ml of KRST, add a few chips of unprocessed paper,
swish it around and wait a minute or so and you should see
about the same thing.
