I scan prints.
Ditto. I find there is a terrific quality difference. Try the same image as a print scan and a negative scan and make your own decision. Flatbeds are designed to replicate the look of reflective copy and seem to do it well. I suppose if you have specialty software and/or hardware you can get a decent image from a B&W negativescan but I have only gotten results that elicit an automatic "Eeewh, what the f#$%&^ went wrong?".
