I don't think so. N- development means reduced development time. Increasing
it again doesn't make it N- anymore, but leaves you with the increased
exposure from N-. That was my proposal from the previous post. In short,
just increase the exposure and forget about pre-exposure and N- development.

No, I never asked for that. I asked if anybody had used pre-exposure with
success, what materials they used it with and if they could recommend it.

I have the sneaking suspicion, pre-exposure only has some benefit with
graded papers. That's how AA used it. With VC papers, there are better and
more controllable ways to increase shadow detail. I also think that
pre-exposure lowers the shadow separation (not increases it as many think),
because it lowers shadow contrast. This is avoidable with other techniques.
In addition, I have found no evidence that pre-exposure raises film speed
(most books in my library claim so). I actually think, it does the exact
opposite. At least if you define film speed with the help of a speed point
that has a fixed negative density above b+f.
