If you are referring to a slight pre-exposure of to raise the speed of the film by pushing it closer to the threshold, I remember it as taking just barely exposed pictures of an out of focus gray card on a whole roll of film (35mm) them rewinding and shooting again.


I did it, it worked, and I'm sorry can't remember any more details.

  It's easier to do with sheet film.

For 35mm It's easier to do with a Contax or similar camera that spaces (indexes) the frames with greater accuracy.

I vaguely recall it taking just a few experiments to get right and make it repeatable.

There was a preproduction version of a 35mm camera that had LED's to slightly expose the film right near the shutter curtain to make the film more sensitive for low-light shooting.
