[pure-silver] Pre or Post print flash exposure?

I have heard opinions expressed that pre and post flash exposures have
different effects on a print's appearance, possibly with brief high
intensity exposures or long low intensity exposures.
Have any of the group seen any references to this or seen differences in
their own experience?
