Dear Nephew Bill,

     Sometimes the jester takes off the cap and bells, deflates the pig's 
bladder, and sits down to soak his feet. Oh I admit there was a temptation to 
digress from the thread of the post and tell you about the evening spent as an 
extra in the recent production of "Casanova " or the upcoming beer and sausage 
festival to be held on Labour Day, but I decided to stick to my guns, or tanks 
as it happenes, and stay on topic.

     I regret it, you understand. LIFE, as any dog going for a walk will 
confirm, is much better when you can follow your nose in all directions at 
once. You are never required to complete anything you start. You can overspend 
and underearn right up to the door of the courthouse. Children run screaming 
from you and nubile women slip their phone numbers into your pocket. ( This has 
actually happened to my cousin, Donald Trump, so I know it works. ) Too much 
focus leads to deadful feelings of guilt and insecurity and such.

    But sometimes you just gotta know something. And other people can be a fine 
source of information, particularly if they are approached in the right way. 
Quentin Tarantino has illustrated a number of means of information retrieval in 
his fine films and I do practise some of these techniques on the local camera 
store staff, but even the most robust shop assistant will run out of blood 
before they can adequately explain digital camera instruction books or the 
finer points of chemistry. This is where the pure-silver list comes in handy. 
Pure information and nothing clots up on you in hot weather....
