My understanding is that something can be a monopoly
even if it doesn't force anyone to use it.  Size and
market share are enough of a criteria.

Funnily, ebay's appeal is _because_ it pretty much
monopolizes the on-line auction business.  There is
enough volume on ebay that you can find just about
anything you want and there are enough auctions that
fair prices - the minimum amount agreeable to all
parties - get set.
That said, ebay (the company) gives off an aura of insidious greed.
